
The 2008 Sarasota Slam will be held at Marina Jack in Sarasota, Florida August 6 - 9. This is the eighth year of the Sarasota tournament sponsored in part by the Home Builders Association of Sarasota County, Inc., and a part of the World Billfish Series. The World Billfish Series is dedicated to promoting a lifestyle committed to sportsmanship, healthy competition and marine conservation through "The World's Richest Bluewater Fishing Events." The WBS works to promote the virtues of true sportsmanship and global marine conservation as ambassadors of big-game fishing. The WBS is a membership-based organization for billfishing enthusiasts - any angler who participates in any WBS-sanctioned tournament during the year becomes a competition member during that calendar year and qualifies to earn WBS points. This year's tournament targets eight species including; Billfish, Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphin, Grouper, Snapper, Redfish, Trout and a wildcard. Prize money payouts based on a minimum of 10 boats registered per category are as follows;
• BILLFISH 1st $50,000.00
• BILLFISH 2nd $15,000.00
• TUNA 1st $3,500.00
• WAHOO 1st $3,500.00
• DOLPHIN 1st $3,500.00
The
Schedule of Events begins Wednesday, August 6, 2008 with registration and ends with a party Saturday night starting at 8:00 pm and ending who knows when August 9, 2008. The weigh-in will be held at Marina Jack between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm Saturday.
