Who knows why he garnered all the press? Reporters latched on to him as the ultimate "everyday American" and it just went viral. I think it all went to his head, though, as now they seem to be catching him in lies and inconsistencies but I don't know that it's his fault this thing snowballed out of control. I think it just spiraled and he got caught up in the whole thing. Don't see any reason to take him fishing, though - guy's been used as bait for too long now.
