Sarasota report, 12/29
Big Sarasota Pass has been the best spot for me this past week. Gold and rootbeer/gold Cotee grubs on a white Cotee jig head accounted for plenty of large ladyfish, bluefish to 3 pounds, and a couple of pompano. The shallow bars have been very good on the end of the outgoing and the first part of the incoming tide, with surface breaking fish showing pretty regularly. The section from Shell Rd to marker 15 has also been productive. In the shallow water cast the lure out and retrieve it back to the boat with sharp hops. In the deeper water, you can drift along and jig vertically.
The flats around Bird Key, the Radio Tower flat, and Stephen's Pt. have been pretty consistent for trout and ladyfish, with the occasional pompano. Jigs worked well along with live shrimp on the incoming tide. The pompano fishing has been sporadic, with only a few being caught, but the ones that we are landing are very nice, up to 3 pounds.
