Default How I became Hooked

It was the summer of 98 and my first fishing experience. Now to make this story a little interesting I think I need to throw in a little background for you.

I'm all female, born and breed in the big city of Indianapolis. The only fish I knew of until 98 was the kind my daddy cooked for dinner. It wasn't until I met my husband that I learned the love of fishing. Well, as this story goes... How I became hooked.

In 98 my husband wanted me to go fishing with him out at his parents pond. Ugh, was my was first thought, and I'm not touching a worm was my second. Furthermore, if i catch something, I'm not touching it either. But, if you want me to go, I will. Well here we are with our line in the water and I'm standing there bored stupid wondering when this is all going to end, when all of a sudden, something grabbed my line and started yanking at my pole. I was terrified to death. I didn't know what it was, it was so powerful, it could of been a monster, lol. I wanted to drop my pole and run. But hubby is all excited and telling me what to do and how to do it and so on. Try as I may, this thing was not coming in without a big fight. To make this long story short, my line eventually broke and snapped my pole back into my gut. It knocked the wind right out of me. When I recovered I vowed that fish would be mine! After that day I went fishing in that pond every weekend. I was sure It would come back and I would reel it in. Well, almost two months later, I finally met eye to eye with that monster. It was a BIG albino catfish. The ugliest thing I ever seen in my life. But, my hubby was so proud, he told that story to everyone. Since then, we've spent many, many years fishing all over. One of my favorite places to fish is Canada.

I am also female but not the typical girlie-girl female at all. I grew up with fishing and boating as my parents were always huge fishermen. Especially my mother - I was the only little girl in school who's mom went fishing every day. We lived on a stream where we could catch some lovely bass as well as assorted other fish - the bass were the big attraction.

Worms never bothered me but I used to have to bait my sister's hook as she was afraid to "hurt" the worm.

That's a cool story, flyfish. It reminds me of hearing somebody become enthusiastic about golf after making a great drive.

I've fished at a few places in Ontario, Canada. I haven't been there for years, but we used to go up to Chapleau. The owner of the hotel we stayed at had a fly-in camp. We caught some good walleye there. I've never seen a catfish.

I was like you, flyfish. I was a young boy when I watched grandpa preparing his fishing rod, hooks, lures and other equipments in his fishing bag. One time he brought me with him along to fish in the lake nearby our place. I never liked touching worms with my bare hands so I would just watch grandpa hook them in his fishing hook as a bait. Then he allowed me to hold his fishing rod/reel and waited for a while until I felt something tugging the rod I was holding. I almost got scared but grandpa helped me reel in the rod and saw a lake trout come out of the water while its mouth was on the bait. That was my first fishing experience.

Yes Humber, I like the cabins in Canada where you have to be flown into or boated too. It just makes it seem so much more exciting. There really isn't another fishing experience quit like the ones you can get in Canada.
